The Metropolis is a women’s parka from The North Face. This parka offers full-body warmth due to its down filling. This jacket is water repellent due to the finish it is treated with. Furthermore, this jacket has a chin guard, a collar and a contoured back. In addition, this parka features a detachable hood, two zippered side pockets and a pocket with an invisible zipper in the side panel seam. The zipper on the jacket itself is two-way, making it easier to close. This parka also has an inside pocket near the chest and is lightweight.

Materials

Recycled polyester

Polyester is a synthetic material made from petroleum. It is a durable, smooth fabric that is soft to the touch. In addition, it is lightweight, does not require ironing and dries quickly. Polyester, unfortunately, is not biodegradable but is recyclable. With proper use and maintenance of the product, it does last longer making it sustainable in the long run. This makes recycled polyester a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative.

Down

Down has excellent thermal properties and is therefore able to insulate body heat from the cold from outside. In addition, down has a high moisture-regulating capacity which ensures that a jacket does not feel clammy quickly and provides natural warmth. Furthermore, down is also recyclable. A parka with down filling also needs less padding than, for example, a synthetic filling. This, along with the fact that down is very light, makes jackets with down filling easy to pack. This makes this parka easy to carry.

Technologies

RDS

Responsible Down Standard (RDS) is a seal of approval for down and feathers. The down and feathers come from birds raised for the food industry. To be RDS certified, the birds must have been treated in an animal-friendly manner. This includes not plucking the birds alive and keeping them in small cages. In addition, force-feeding and beak trimming are prohibited.

PFC Free/Eco Finish

The The North Face Metropolis women’s parka is manufactured without the use of environmentally hazardous fluorocarbons (PFCs). The use of PFCs in textile finishes makes clothing water, dirt and grease repellent. This jacket uses an alternative finish without the use of PFCs. This makes the product water and dirt repellent. Only an oil-repellent effect cannot currently be achieved with a PFC-free finish.
