Type of construction
When a jacket has a one-, two-, two-and-a-half- or three-layer construction, it often means that it has a certain degree of wind and water resistance. The more layers, the better the protection against wind and rain.
Single-layer: these jackets are not waterproof, at most water-repellent. For example, a softshell.
Two-layer: the membrane is connected to the upper fabric and has another separate lining that is not attached to the membrane
Two-layer: the membrane is connected to the upper fabric and is protected by a thin layer.
Three-layer: the jacket's membrane is connected to both the outer fabric and the inner lining.

Water column (mm)
Water column indicates the degree to which a material is waterproof. It is indicated by measuring how much pressure the material can withstand before water leaks through it.
0-1,000: water-repellent but not waterproof.
1,000-5,000: waterproof, but water leaks through the material at a slight pressure.
5,000-15,000: completely waterproof, but water leaks through the material under heavy pressure.
15,000-30,000: completely waterproof, even with shallow immersion.
