In a document from the late 17th century, Petrus Meindl is mentioned as the first shoemaker in Kirchanschöring. Today is already the ninth generation. In 1928 (the seventh generation) Lukas Meindl becomes an independent shoemaker to continue his family tradition. More and more family members are joining and over the years Meindl has come up with various practical ideas and products, such as the meindl air active ladies!

In 1976 Alfons Meindl designed the walking shoe to distinguish different types of shoes.

These categories are still used worldwide. In 1979 the first multi-grip sole was developed and in 1982 the first boot with a Gore-Tex membrane was introduced. In the year 2000 Meindl presented Air Revolution for good foot comfort and in 2002 the Memory Foam System was designed. In 2015 Meindl was voted Best Brand for the second year by the readers of the ‘Outdoor’ magazine. Craftsmanship, experience, quality and innovation are clearly central to this shoe brand, and they will certainly continue to do so in the coming years.
