    What is G-1000?

In our range you will find many products from the Swedish brand Fjällräven, which has been making outdoor items since 1960. Fjällräven develops functional, durable outdoor products. Therefore, they use high-quality materials, out of which G-1000 is the most important. G-1000 is a true outdoor classic that is wind-resistant, water-repellent and breathable.

    G-1000, what is it?

G-1000 is a unique fabric that has been specially developed by and for Fjällräven. The fabric is made of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. The dense weave structure provides an exceptionally durable, highly breathable, wind-resistant and water-repellent fabric. In addition, the material protects almost 100% against UV radiation. Many of the G-1000 fabrics are also mosquito-proof.

    The types of G-1000

G-1000 is available in six different versions, each of them adapted for specific outdoor activities. The Eco versions are made from recycled polyester and organic cotton, which makes these a sustainable option.

    G-1000 Original and G-1000 Eco

The G-1000 Original is the fabric in its basis, the original G-1000 that started it all. The fabric is exceptionally strong due to its dense weave structure. This makes the fabric a bit heavier and stiffer, but G-1000 remains one of the best outdoor classics. The fabric has been tested under all conditions and is designed to protect you under all weather circumstances.

G-1000 Silent and G-1000 Silent Eco

The base for the G-1000 Silent is the same, but there is a big difference with the other variants, because the Silent variant is brushed. This takes away the stiffness of the fabric and makes the fabric noiseless when it is worn. The brushed finish does slightly reduce the strength of the fabric.

Clothing with G-1000 Silent is ideal for hunting and game management activities. Of course, the clothing with G-1000 Silent can also be used for many other activities.

G-1000 Lite and G-1000 Lite Eco

As the name implies, the Lite variant is a lighter fabric than the others. This is due to its specific weave structure. So-called ripstop yarns are used to weave G-1000 Lite. Ripstop yarns have the properties that they are very strong, durable and airy. Due to the thinner fabric, G-1000 Lite is not mosquito-proof.

Clothing with G-1000 Silent is ideal as light trekking clothing in the summer or as travel clothing. Naturally, the clothing with G-1000 Lite can also be used for many other activities.

G-1000 HeavyDuty and G-1000 HeavyDuty Eco

The G-1000 HeavyDuty is the extra strong and extra expensive version of the fabric. It is almost impossible to wear out. But because it is impregnated at both sides of the fabric, the fabric is less breathable than the other G-1000 fabrics. Therefore, this fabric is mainly used for backpacks and bags, but also for reinforcement on garments that need it.

    G-1000 HeavyDuty Eco S.

The G-1000 HeavyDuty is also available in a softer, smoother version: the G-1000 HeavyDuty Eco S. Thanks to a finer weaving technique, the HeavyDuty Eco S is lighter than the regular version, but is still very strong and durable.

    G-1000 Air

Clothing with G-1000 Air is specially made for warm conditions. Like the Eco version, G-1000 Air is made from recycled polyester and organic cotton. The material is basically the same as the G-1000 Original. The only difference is that the Air variant is not waxed. This ensures that the fabric is more breathable and lighter to wear.

    Maintenance

As durable and strong as G-1000 is, every fabric needs maintenance, as does G-1000. G-1000 can be maintained with Greenland Wax. You can also use Greenland Wax to make your fabric denser and to increase the weather resistance of the fabric.

As durable and strong as G-1000 is, every fabric needs maintenance, as does G-1000. All types of G-1000 can be maintained with the Greenland Wax. You can also use Greenland Wax to make your fabric denser and to increase the weather resistance of the fabric. You can use the wax on all clothing items, whether you want to use it on your FjallRaven jacket, pants or backpack.

    Step 1: Applying

Rub the Greenland Wax well into the fabric with long strokes. In this way, a thin and even layer remains. It is important that you treat all parts of the fabric, otherwise the fabric may still leak.

    Step 2: Melting

When you have applied the wax it is time to let the wax melt. You can do this by means of an iron (without steam) or hairdryer. The wax will approximately melt between 55 and 60 °C.

    Tip 1

If you want to make certain areas of the garment extra weather resistant, you can repeat the steps several times. It is better to repeat the steps than to use a lot of wax in one go. This way the wax remains more evenly distributed and the wax is better absorbed into the fabric.

    Tip 2

We recommend extra waxing of sensitive areas and the areas which more exposed to the weather.
See the video below for the places where extra waxing is recommended:
